Annals of Animal and Biological Research (AABR) is an international peer-reviewed scientific journal published in the English Language by the Department of Animal Science, Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Nigeria. It publishes novel and high-quality original research papers, high impact review papers and short communications.

Aims and Scope

AABR aims to integrate into one scientific journal reports in the fields of animal and biological research from numerous and broad disciplines. The scope of the journal covers research of major areas of Animal and Biological Sciences (Animal Biochemistry, Animal Biotechnology, Animal Breeding and Genetics, Animal Health, Animal Nutrition,  Animal Physiology and Reproduction, Animal Production and Management, Animal Product Quality, Animal Environment and Behaviour, Livestock Economics and Extension, Micro-livestock, Pasture and Range Management; Agronomy, Anatomy, Biochemistry, Botany, Biometry, Conservation and Management of Ecosystems, Development and Differentiation,  Ecology, Evolutionary Biology, Fisheries and Aqua Sciences, Food and Nutrition Sciences, Forestry, Genetics, Horticultural Sciences, Immunology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Morphology, Pathology, Pest, Pharmacology, Toxicology, Physiology, Plant Breeding, Soil Sciences, Taxonomy, Veterinary Sciences, and Zoology).

Types of Articles

AABR publishes the following peer-reviewed scientific articles:

Original research papers: Original full-length scientific papers which have not been published previously or submitted to another journal for consideration should not exceed 6,000 words (including an allowance for tables and illustrations).

Review articles: These articles should focus on particular topics of interest and summarize current scientific facts and information, not exceeding 12,000 words (including an allowance for tables and illustrations).

Short communications: These may be preliminary findings of significant research or introductory that is adequate for immediate publication, not exceeding 3,000 words.

Originality

The author is accountable for the originality of the paper, subject-matter and formal quality of the paper.

Manuscript submission and requirements

The manuscript should be submitted with the manuscript submission form duly signed by the corresponding author through the manuscript central or as an attachment to the email address: aabr@aaua.edu.ng.  Microsoft Word file must be saved under the first author’s surname only. Manuscript obtained will be checked by the anti-plagiarism system Similarity Check (Launch Plagiarism Checker X). Manuscripts will firstly be checked for language and presentation. Manuscripts that are substandard in following these guidelines will be returned without review. All correspondence including the notification of the editor’s decision and requests for obligations take place by e-mail.

Reviewers’ assessment and evaluation

All scientific contributions and presentations will be peer-reviewed on the benchmark of originality, novelty, quality and conformity to the journal’s guidelines. At least two reviewers, who are experts in the subject, are appointed for each paper to review through a member of the editorial board that serves as a coordination editor. The reviewers are requested to return papers within 4 weeks. Manuscripts returned to authors with reviewer reports should be revised and sent back to the editorial as soon as possible. The final decisions on acceptance or rejection are made by the Editor-In-Chief.

Charges

Manuscript submitted for publication must be accompanied by a handling charge of two thousand Naira (N2,000.00) per paper. The journal charges N18,000.00 (local) or $40.00 (overseas) per manuscript accepted and published. However, extra costs will be incurred if coloured pages are included in the manuscripts.

Manuscript Preparation

Manuscripts should be organized according to the guidelines below.

Font, size and style: The manuscript should be processed preferably in Microsoft Word using Times New Roman with font size 12pt (except the Title having 14pt) on A4, double-spaced and line numbered.

Article structure: The Original research paper and Short communication should be arranged in the following sequence: Title, Authors, Affiliations, Abstract, Keywords, Main text [Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, (combined Results and Discussion may be used especially for short papers) Conclusion], Acknowledgements, References, Tables and then Figures. In contrast, Review paper should contain Title, Authors, Affiliations, Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Main body (with series of sub-topics/headings), Conclusion, Acknowledgements (if any), References, Tables then Figures.

Title: The title of the manuscript should be concise and informative. It should be in bold and align to the centre.

Author(s) name(s): The name(s) of the author(s) should be written such that the surname is preceded by the initials (e.g. O.R. Galman, R.R. Avtalion, M.T. Ayankoso and W.A. Olaniyi).  This should be in bold and align to the centred (but with no ‘period’).

Affiliations: The author(s)’ affiliation address(es) should indicate where the work was carried out and presented directly below the author(s) name(s). Superscripts (e.g. 1, 2, 3) should be used in occasions where authors are from different institutions or affiliations. The superscript (*) should be attached to the name of the author that will be responsible for correspondence.  An active email address of the corresponding author should also be provided below the author’s affiliation. This should not be in bold but align to the centre.

Abstract: An abstract should be written immediately after affiliations. It should be concise and factual and contain the following: objective(s) of study, experimental treatments, results, the significance of findings and the conclusions. This should not exceed 250 words.

Keywords: A list of 5-6 keywords, separated by comma (ones not used in the title) should be included below the abstract.

Introduction: This should give the essential scientific background to the study (particularly on the subject under investigation) and state the objective(s) of the work. With scientific evidence, the author must prove why the study should be considered as essential and by extension, its contribution to the field of animal or biological science.

Materials and methods: This should provide sufficient detail of the experiment to permit the work to be reproduced and repeated. Methods previously published should be indicated by a reference. A suitable statistical method/analysis should be applied and reported.

Results: This should be clear and concise. It should be presented in words with well-designed Tables and Figures (the same data should not be used in both). Figures and Tables should be on different/separate pages after the reference list, and not be incorporated into the main text.

Discussion: This should provide an interpretation of the results in relation to earlier published scientific works. Also, findings from results must be logically presented and supported with other published scientific works. Avoid extensive repetition/duplication of the results or reiteration of the introduction. Though combined result and discussion is often appropriate.

Conclusion: This should outline significant outcomes from work along with some explanation on the significance of the results. It should be concise and clear.

Acknowledgements: If any, should describe sources of funding that have supported the work and/or describe an individual that had assisted in the course of the study (including the roles individual had performed in the study).

References: Please ensure that all the works cited within the text are presented in the reference list. References in the text should be cited by the name of the first author (surname) and year of publication (in parentheses). A full list of references should be organized in alphabetical order at end of the text.

Examples of citations within the text should be written as listed below:

Single author: The author’s name (without initials, unless there is ambiguity) and the year of publication; e.g. (Gbore, 2018)
Two authors: Both authors’ names and the year of publication; e.g. (Gbore and Adu, 2019)
Three or more authors: First author’s name followed by ‘et al.’ and the year of publication: e.g. (Oloruntola et al., 2019), but please do list all authors in the reference entry
Several works by one author in one year should be differentiated as “a, b, c etc” while in different years should be differentiated by the year; while groups of references should be listed first alphabetically, then chronologically: e.g. (Abe, 2015a, 2015b, 2019; Abe and Falowo, 2019).
Works by different authors should be listed first alphabetically, then chronologically: e.g. (Olaniyi et al., 2017; Olarotimi et al., 2017; Oloruntola, 2019; Smith, 2019).

Reference List

The list should be firstly in alphabetical order, then chronologically. More than one reference from the same author in the same year must be differentiated by the letters ‘a’, ‘b’, ‘c’, etc., inserted after the year of publication. The following style should be used for the list:

Tables: This should be numbered consecutively in bold Arabic numerals (e.g. Table 1) in accordance with their appearance in the text. Place footnotes to Tables below the Table body and indicate them with superscript lowercase letters.

Figures: This should be numbered consecutively in bold Arabic numerals (e.g. Figure 1) in accordance with their appearance in the text. Ensure that each Figure has a caption/legend.

Cover Page and Manuscript Submission Form

Each manuscript should be submitted with a cover page and the manuscript submission form. Without both, the manuscript will be rejected from the publication process.

The cover page should contain the title of the manuscript, running headline of up to 35 characters, the significance of the study to science and industry, level of submission (please mention if this is the first submission, or the manuscript has been sent to other journals), the signature of the corresponding author and at least three reviewers that can review your manuscript from research area domain.

Ethical Statement

Where applicable, an experiment involving animals must be conducted within standard ethical norms. A statement indicating compliance with that must be included in the Materials and Methods section.

Conflict of interest

All authors should indicate if there is any actual or potential conflict of interest that could inappropriately or possibly influence their work after publication.

Terms and Condition for Authors to the Journal

Transactions with Annals of Animal and Biological Research will principally be done online.

All materials published in the Annals of Animal and Biological Research remains the property of the journal. Reproduction of the contents in the journal without proper citation is not permitted.

Articles are peer-reviewed (double-blind) by professionals with content expertise in the article topic. Articles are reviewed for their quality, length, contents, and applicability to an international readership with strict adherence to Annals of Animal and Biological Research Author’s Guidelines. Articles are accepted with the assumption and perception that their contents are the author’s original work, not malicious or plagiarized in any way. All statements of opinion and fact in the journal are published under the full responsibilities of the authors. They are not the view of the editors or the publisher, in this case, Annals of Animal and Biological Research. Submission of a paper will be taken on the assumption that the manuscript has not been at one time published and is not being submitted for publication elsewhere.

Contributing authors assign copyright to the Annals of Animal and Biological Research. By giving in an article to be published in Annals of Animal and Biological Research, all authors admit to a “transfer of copyright” This transfer agreement does not relinquish the author’s proprietary rights. Authors are responsible for acquiring from the copyright holder permission to produce information or figure for which copyright exists.
